Linksys Wireless gaming adaptor help needed

[link to this post]

Not sure where to start!

It keeps telling me network cable disconnected on PS2, tried it on XBOX 360 and it tells me its an IP problem as the router must be made to assign ip addresses to devices through DHCP

It does work however if I disable the WEP on my router, in the Infrastructure mode, so not sure what problem is!

sounds like the problem is WEP. Different vendors have different opinions about key lengths etc. Start with 64 bit and work up.

Lol confusing,

Whats also confusing is the adaptor asks if I want to obtain ip address automatically or set one, so I dont know what to choose.

set the adaptor to get an IP address off the router. Don't know if it acts transparently and passes it on to the client device.

Still no luck, also tried giving the adaptor the same IP address as the console, same problem.

Its recognising the wireless network on the adaptor, but not connecting to it!

You need to assign the gaming adaptor a fixed ip address in its management screen, and also I think you need to disable the MAC cloning option (cant remember - try it with enabled also).

Then on your router, make sure that address is excluded from the DHCP range - your console will now get an IP address from the router.

Ie, your router/gateway IP = 192.168.1.1
your gaming adaptor IP = 192.168.1.2

DHCP range on your router = 192.168.1.3->192.168.1.254 (or whatever it is).

HTH

PS if you have the same adaptor as I did (WGA54G or something) this was a pre-G piece of hardware, and I had terrible compatibility issues with my router - it would just drop the connection and I'd have to reconnect to a game. In the end I got a netgear WGE111 which has been flawless to this day.
