Is PSTN LLU slamming common?

[link to this post]

I am interested in hearing from people who paid their telephone line rental to a company who at a later date transferred their PSTN service to a full LLU solution without their consent.

NOTE: This is not about peopel who have voice & broadband combined deals, but only voice deals.

The problem been that the broadband the customer had from another broadband provider will get cut off by the move to full LLU.

I believe that apart from mistakes by providers this is a situation that normally should not happen, but if it is happening I feel it should not and would like cases I can collate and goto Ofcom with.

does your voice provider changing the technicalities of way they provide the service constitute slamming ? I would have thought not.

Strictly speaking you would be right according to my understanding of the definition of slamming - BUT - well done Mr S for recognising the issue. If it does happen, the fact that the customer loses broadband - or even has no broadband to start with and loses the capability to take broadband from any supplier, without being made aware - actually makes this as bad as slamming.

Even if this is not a big issue in practice, Ofcom should act to make a pre-emptive determination, IMO

i agree it is an issue, as is its relative where the broadband is moved over to LLU leaving the user with extra complexity and/or charges in moving to an IPStream service.

Maybe we need a new word for it, so it doesn't vanish amongst the "traditional" slamming.

I think this will only be a problem when the provider migrates the voice line to FMPF. This only applies to TT and Bulldog LLU and possibly some Tiscali lines.

I know TT has a policy that it will not do this without the customer's specific consent but accidents can happen.

ps TT call it slamming as well.

Agreed...my concern is people who sign up for just a voice service and then find a broadband service is terminated due to a move to FMPF.

As yet no sign of anyone actually doing this.

Concern appears because some are warning people to go onto a WLR deal due to the risk you may get FMPF'd and lose an existing broadband connection - never seen this happen to my knowledge.

Hi,
Late last year, I know of a company (who were happily using Freeola ADSL) who suddenly lost their ADSL connection.

After much faffing around it was found that TalkTalk had 'pinched' the line which killed the ADSL. This was allegedly all done over the phone with no paper work or physical documentation!? The person that said 'OK' to switching phone packages didn't realise it would also change their ADSL setup.

It was pretty painful trying to find out what had actually happened.
Unfortunately I won't be able to get you anymore details than this.

Hmmm...

I don't think that's slamming, any more than your wife agreeing to swap your phone rental to TT and you lose your lovely ADSL connection - which happened to a friend of mine recently.

I do not care what it is called.

If I lose my ADSL connection because someone changes my POTS I would be annoyed.

I don't care what you don't care about, this thread is about the change happening without consent, not about your co-worker or wife exceeding their authority.
