has the upload speed for ADSL Max been increased?

[link to this post]

I have noticed that my speed test results over the last few days show a better upload ( 0.5MBps) than previously (roughly 380kbps).

Checking my router stats now shows that upstream synch speed is 576 kbps vs 488kbps previously.

Am I just lucky or is this a new twist in the ADSL Max saga?

Assuming your profile is right and you're still with Nildram I'd take a guess that you've been migrated from Max to the Tiscali LLU platform...

yes, I am with Nildram and had forgotten about that transition...

Try a traceroute...see what you're routing through.

You just did!

The upload sync on Max is up to, (normally spot on), 448kbps giving an upload speed of up to about 380kbps.

Max Premium is up to 832kbps sync but you would be charged more for that.

my router synch is 8160/576

I wonder how you would explain this test result that has been duplicated on several tests

8160 download sync is also impossible on IPStream.

The BBMax speedtester always reports higher speeds than any otrher I have found. For instance, I recently got a profile drop to 5000kbps for a while, the BT speedtester was down so I couldn't use that, and BBMax showed 5181 download.

Try the one on the Main Site here. Another reputable one is www.speedtest.net.

8128kbps is the normal maximum sync, but you do sometimes see the next 2 32kbps increment sync rates, e.g. 8160 and 8192 kbps.

I thought that if I was put on LLU than checking with another BB supplier by putting in my phone number would tell me that I have an incompatible product on the line. Orange tells me that I can get BB.

my speed test result from speedtest.net is 7139/500 this morning

I think it's only the BT estimator, which samknows pretty well copies verbatim, that has that message about something else on the line.

We all know that if you have broadband already, that's what it means, so doesn't prevent you getting a MAC code and migrating.

Some ISPs also realise that. Others don't and just accept what it says. So Orange have got it right.

However, I hope you aren't thinking of going to them. See here and here. (The Sky ratings are lower than I would expect presumably because they cover both their LLU service which seems to be good, and their IPStream service Sky Connect which seems to be one of the worst). I haven't included Nildram in the TBB one either as I expect it doesn't yet reflect the results of customers being moved to Tiscali LLU.

Though that speed test looks good .

So if you are thinking of migrating I suggest you open a new thread in Which ISP? (Residential) and say what sort of usage you have and so on .
