Regarding RouterStats logs, Bob, there were a few chunks saved but nothing useful. Dragging the main graph back didn't go far enough in time. Perhaps I should leave my PC on all night?

Not sure how healthy/unhealthy that wiring is. Could even depend on the wind and passing swarms of bats.

When I wanted to trace something like that the only solution was to leave things on 24/7 for a few days. That way you get to see the pattern of regular changes, and detailed timings of spikes.

It might be worth it for a few days.

I've only been dipping in and out of your thread - but seeing you mention that made me think.

Why don't you turn your router off when you turn your PC off at night?
That's what I do and it seems to work for me - my line can be rather dodgy, so I turn my router (and PCs) on in the morning and off at night. That way it reduces the chance of anything affecting my IP Profile etc.

Just a thought...

That's another way. Quite good in the summer when there is daylight in the mornings so noise is low. Not so good in the winter - you tend to get a permanently low'ish sync/profile then.

I had thought of that but my loved one tends to get up in the middle of the night so if she switches the router on during darkness to send emails around the planet, could make matters worse!!
