Home Phone SMS

[link to this post]

Hi All,

Does anyone know how the home phones that can send/receive SMS work?

Do they get called by a special number to give them the text, or do they have to poll occasionally?

Is the protocol listed anywhere?

Cheers,
Adam

The SMS is sent from the SMS centre to which the originator is registered to as standard network call. If an SMS enabled device is attatched the message will be sent and stored, otherwise the message will be sent using text to speech conversion.

You should avoid subjecting those with heart conditions to one of these.

My mother can't cope with them at all (not that she has a heart condition, we hope).

If you send a text message to her landline, saying something like: "I am going to be late", she will panic and hang up without listening. When you then arrive (late), and say: "Didn't you get my message?", she says: "Oh, I got a strange phone call, but didn't know what to do, so I hung up".

Have you ever heard one delivered this way? You'd probably hang up too smile
