ISP Metronet move to Virgin broadband

[link to this post]

Sorry! lost the connection to the topic I found on Google but my question is - can I use Virgin cable broadband connection through my V-Box to my ISP Metronet and still retain my e-mail addresses but lower my monthly costs and improve my broadband speeds?

Can't answer the question, but get yourself a domain for £7.50 every 2 years from Purple Cloud, or similar from 1&1, with free mail forwarding, tell everyone your new email address (silly example [email protected]), start using it to send and receive, and also read your existing email address to see if you missed any, and in two months your email address is no longer a tie as it never changes when you migrate.

It took me a lot of time over two days - but was more than worth it.

Even better is to buy email hosting from wherever you get the domain. Purple Cloud £10 per year with 10 mailboxes and unlimited aliases.

That way you don't even rely on the ISP email system working. (Many are unreliable). And also in the case of Purple Cloud get IMAP and Webmail for when you are mobile.

Up and running within hours of order.

Bob: Demon dialup >> Freeserve dialup >> BT Broadband >> Prodigynet >> Newnet >> O2 Premium.
Purple Cloud for domain, email and web space.

So your basicly asking to keep your old email address once you switch to metronet? erm, i don't think they will let you. tip is not to relly on ISP email addresses. be sure to check that you wont be violating your contract by switching mid term. metronet is ADSL so you'll need a BT phone line installed and i do believe you can't use the V box as its configured for virgin connections only. Also, savings you'd be making would be on the slimside.

I feel like retentions!

I also mentioned a competitor.

Have you any disagreement with the advice I gave?

Oh dear.

Have you read the Subject?

Edit - Ah! Given this post of yours, and your reply to my earlier post, I just realised.

It's Friday night and 17-year-old school-boys get out to play, as long as they are home by 11:30pm. Have a good time did you?

Short answer, no

Long answer, still no

I thought Metronet was dead, I thi8nk it is dead, but in name only, such a shame, Plusnet grabbed hold of it and spoiled it.

You can't use Metronet via Virgin, two different companies and two different systems, if you can keep your metronet address I doubt it,. Hang on if I remember rightly you had to pay extra for a email address on Metronet.

As been said on here, best thing is to use a email host service like one and one or just go for a free one like Yahoo (please not there are other email services available)

Adrian using Linux on his laptop and windows 7 64 bit on his desktop.

BTBroadbandanywhere type package, when it works.
