re-mouse problem on vista

[link to this post]

Hi, newby here, can anyone help? I have had a long running problem with my overactive mouse, it takes me to pages I do not want.I only have to hover over an article for a split second sometimes or just pass over an advert, even when reading something I have already clicked to read and the page changes to whatever the mouse was on? I have been into "ease of access and the box for mouse hover is unchecked, This only has occurred since I went Vista, XP was fine. I want to control the mouse by click only not a mouse that decides for me. Any help would be very much appreciated, it is rather annoying, It,s worse than a back seat driver:

Are you using a touchpad on a laptop? If so, does plugging in a USB/PS2 mouse cure the problem?

You probably need drivers for the touchpad if they aren't already fully installed. Check the Control Panel>Mose applet and see if there is an option to turn off "tapping" and "virtual scrolling".
If drivers aren't fully installed, most laptops use Synaptics compatible hardware and you can download the relevant software from here. Set a restore point before installation just in case.
On rebooting, a small window will appear with a link to the drivers applet. Click on it and then on "Device Settings". Turn off "Tapping" and "Virtual Scrolling".

If it doesn't work, uninstall the drivers and reinstate the restore point that you created. If your hardware vendor doesn't supply a full driver set, you'll need to buy a USB mouse (Around £3 in Argos).

Thanks deadbeat, much appreciated, willdo.Tapping and virtual scrolling works as I use them, if it,s what I think you mean.Tap twice and it goes to page, move scroll on right of touchpad and it goes from top to bottom of page on it,s own.will just do as you say anyway:

Hi, Its me again, been through all you said, using synaptics touchpad v6.5 on ps/2 port 3 and is operating properly.I Have disabled the tapping and increased the sensitivity of the touchpad.Left virtual scroll enabled, to see how it reacts to changes.I will see how this affects the problem, thanks very much.
