help needed with line stats

[link to this post]

my apologies in advance for rambling, but here is my problem i would be grateful for help with

my username is nogginthenog real name john cannot login to forum and post in orange forum

1. recently i have been bit capped by orange to 512kb at peak times on a ADSL 8 meg line

2 received a letter 7 days ago stating that my line speed at peak times to be restored within 7 days, they have not, phoned support, reset livebox changed from channel1 to channel 11

3 my line stats are
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Interleave
Noise margin (dB) : 11.1
Attenuation (dB) : 7.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 9632
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 7616 448

my question is, is there a problem with these figures?

Depends! Are you on a LLU package or on a BT based one? Orange may call this "in their area" or not.

LLU packages are usually using ADSL2+ (even if capped to 8 Meg). BT, until recently, used ADSL1.

G.DMT indicates you are using ADSL1. This could mean that you are on non-LLU or it could mean that your LLU ISP has downgraded you from ADSL2+ to ADSL1 for some reason.

The figures are OK for ADSL1; the DS rate of 7616 is slightly lower than the best you could get of 8128 Kbps.

However, if you were on ADSL2+, I would expect your Attainable download rate to be about 24 Meg with your low attenuation of 7 db (you are very close to exchange) and your DS rate to be close to 8 Meg, as you are capped. I get 8061 Kbps on Orange LLU ADSL2+ "Up to 8 Meg" package.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg BB

7616 the max. for ADSL1 with interleaving enabled - this is almost certainly not needed on such a line.. with that attenuation there will be no problem with noise (I wonder if that attenuation figure is correct, actually.. the SNR and attainable speed seem too low, but it could just be poor reporting by the modem)..

From the upstream it definitely looks like a standard BT ADSL1 connection, not any kind of LLU (which tends to uncap upstream, as does 21cn).

So apart from switching interleaving off there isn't a lot of improvement required on those stats, short of moving house to an exchange that supports ADSL2 tongue

You need to ask your service provider to do it for you. It is not something you can change on the router.

Now, that is the golden question smile

I'm not with Orange so can't answer it.

However, if this link is anything to go by, you might need to ring several times and reiterate that interleaving is on for your line.
