Wireless signal issue/question

[link to this post]

I might have asked this before I cant remember but in my current property I have strange wirless issues.

Have tried the normal aerial as well as high gain with no real difference, in fact the normal one seems better,

It always picks up a signal and hasnt really been lower than 2 bars but quite often 3 bars.

Normally nudging the aerial a tiny bit towards the right gets it to pick up a signal but it may be a slow speed(i.e 1-4 meg) and after fiddling about for a few minutes it normally gets like 6-8 meg then if I change the wireless channel the connection speeds up for wireless.

I dojnt know if its because I am next to a very busy road during the day which is quiet during night(thoiugh not dead)

My laptop always connects around 12 meg(its a 18 and a half meg connection) and ethernet does 16/16.5 meg

I want to use my wireless on my pc as a back up for one and also because I sometimes use the ethernet cable for my 360 or Gamecube or original Xbox so if I dont get wireless I cant do downloads on my main or anything online.

Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I did get a tiny usb n dongle and that always had a 5 bar signal even on back usb port and always connected.

My card is a good Belkin one and have tried another Belkin one with same issues(in fact it had a weaker signal)

High gain antenna usually mean good signal in just one direction, i.e. not as 360 degree as the standard ones.

As for variations, check what other wireless networks are visible using NetStumbler software.

As for why one device works better than another, thats the joys, buying kit until you find a combination that works best for you

I actually noticed this, on a evening if I point the aerial flat towards the wall straight from behind it has a almost perfect signal.
