Change in Broadband characteristics.

[link to this post]

Bit long winded so bear with me.
I live at the edge of my local exchanges reach ,so sit on a 63.5 db line
( possibly more as the 63.5 is the max it will read on my modem stats page).
I have always struggled with speed (800 kbps or there about) and so with wiring changes and a Billion router with 6db Forcing firmware (db around 7 db) , i managed to get to 1.5 to 1.7 meg ,but with the occasional re sync at around tea time to early evening. This i could live with as a trade for more speed.
I then got an email from my ISP Newnet informing me i would be transferred over to BT's 21cn WBC something or other , (sorry cant find the original email).
On the day of change over my router re-synced and did so at 2.1 meg ,but on checking , early morning it showed the noise margin at around 5 db .
Oh dear i thought as the day wore on i expected the snr to fall to the point of re-sync ,but it has stayed constant at around 5 db for over 10 days .
I have monitored with router stats and can confirm no fall in snr ,no spike or blips.

ADSL Firmware Version

:
FwVer:3.9.4.144_TC3085 HwVer:T14.F7_3.0

Line State

:
Showtime

Modulation

:
G.DMT

Annex Mode

:
ANNEX_A

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin
5.0 6.0db
Line Attenuation
63.5 31.5 db
Data Rate
2112 416kbps

By the way my upstream speed used to be 448 kbps

And from my modem/router interrogation

28/07/2010 11:46:41 wan adsl opmode
operational mode: ITU G.992.1(G.DMT)
The question is what mode of communication am i now on is it ADSL 2 or ADSL 2+ or something else.

Thanks in advance and for your patience

G992.1 = G.gmt = original ADSL flavour. Looks like you're benefiting from the hardware change at the exchange ?

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

This is interesting and very good for you!

From what I had read switching to 21CN/WBC mostly only benefited those on a line attenuation under around 45db.

I'm on 51db so when my creaky rural exchange eventually gets upgraded perhaps things could get better for me as I was rather worried it could get worse!

Thanks for the post smile
