What's your upload speed though?

It takes that into account as well as your download speed.

Ah, I see...

What you really need is the database of all their speedtests to plot the distribution and locate the percentiles... getting hold of that might be tricky tongue

Quite easy to get some of it!

http://www.netindex.com/source-data/

Can get the full raw data set (anonymised) if you ask nicely!

I'm fast coming to the conclusion that it's not worth trying. Gradings are all over the place.

Scottish Labour politician: The SNP are on a very dangerous tack. What they are doing is trying to build up a situation in Scotland where the services are manifestly better than south of the border in a number of areas.

Interviewer: Is that a bad thing?

Scottish Labour politician: No, but they are doing it deliberately.

Upstream and latency must have something to do with it, but the algorithm is far from obvious to me. Couple of quite different results here:

Good downstream, average upstream, bad ping = B minus

Down 9.8 Mbps
Up 1.2 Mbps
Ping 74ms
Grade B-
Faster than 61% of the UK

http://speedtest.net/result/1576116594.png

Poor downstream, good upstream, still poor ping time = C minus
Physically different kit

Down 5.4 Mbps
Up 2.0 Mbps
Ping 65ms
Grade C+
Faster than 56% of the UK

That second one says C plus now.

I could swear blind it said C minus two minutes ago.

I think the grades do change over time, so they would appear to be relative not absolute.

Post deleted by Daniel_g

Found the graph of the last log of tests with the gradings but earlier dropped the wifi card to wireless g standard to prove a point of doing a slower speedtest on that so screwed up the results.

did a few of 2 servers, Maidstone custonian centre being the full wack 37. something.

Explanation why I deleted!.
