No it doesn't Bob, but then think about it, there's a fair bit more to a lines pair than just the dropwire.

The term dropwire applies to the cable from the pole to the premises.

Not sure where you are getting 'grey wires' from, as someone asked earlier, some photos might help.

The 2nd pair in the dropwire may terminate at the box on the roof and not continue into the premises; being at readiness to provide a 2nd line.

Just to add, the 'standard' installed dropwire has been a single pair for a couple of years now.

to show the OP a new line wouldn't necessarily solve a problem with that cable. Mine had to be replaced due to abrasion by tree branches.

I realise a different pair would be completely different connections at the pole and the premises.

Hi my dropwire is black cable goes into a torpedo joint comes out from joint grey something like speaker wire with 2 single thick conductor going to another joint then 6 wires from yhat joint to master socket....looked on google said its old type of wiring and not twisted and prone to induced intereference.I

No, the 'norm' was two pair, dropwire 10.

Right checked there is three wires comming from outside grey or three two are connected from box to a which has 6 wires 2 are conected to other 2 outside with one spare.
