Copper multicast

Just checking my line with the BT checker to see if fibre is in the future, its not. But it says on the checker "Other offerings", Copper multicast. What is this?

To do with broadcasting the same video stream to lots of people at the same time

Your ISP can do a live stream of a TV program to your exchange, and all that ISP's customers on that exchange can watch that program live. Before multicast your ISP had to do a stream for each customer. The stuff in the exchange "multicasts" it out to them.

AIUI, FTTC multicast does it at the exchange then cabinet levels.

That was a multicast trial over the ISP backhaul/peering links

So a different thing, to point you down the right path look at BT Sport and delivery of free games. With Copper Multicast not fully rolled out they are restricting BT TV to Infinity products for now.

No Infinity on my exchange but copper multicast is. Wonder if this is an indication Fibre may be coming?

Without doing a pattern analysis difficult to say, many areas have had the FTTC Multicast first
