Decided to cancel bts order for 2nd line and go with sse broadband and phone, however i won't get line installed till the 27th of August! whereas bt was going to install theres on the 3rd of august, Doesn't isps have an obligation to install new line within a certain time frame? seems an awfully long wait.

Depends on a mixture of what you are ordering and it can vary from day to day as to what appointment slots are actually available.

Some areas see big spikes in demand with people upgrading to fibre services, and repair work always takes priority.

Install slots 4 to 5 weeks in advance are not that unusual for some parts of the UK, and as its holiday season the ranks of installers will be a bit thinner.

Ah well we all need a break from work now and again, can't hold that against them smile

Just a little weird thats all as bt allowed me to pick several install days from the 3rd all the way through to the 7th (available openreach slots) i figured sse would have similar slots open. I guess not. Suppose i'll have to be patient

Also does anyone have problems using this forum on there phone? If i try typing using my phone, say replying to a post, it goes haywire, words jumble about the place like it has a mind of its own or is it just my phone?

The slot system is what all providers use, but down to the SSE wholesaler whether this is passed on as an option, or they just pick a slot for you and you fit around that.

Not on my phone for this post, but do post a lot via phone and don't have that problem. Auto correct can morph the odd word, but then my brain does that on its own sometimes too.

Perhaps a dumb question at this point... Why would you pay double line rental and DSL subscription if you canget fibre for probably 2/3 the cost and probably much more than double the speed? If you don't have access to fibre, ignore me (I have 3 phone lines in my house for BB but only because I have no access to Fibre)

From his OP I assumed the estimate for fibre was very low.

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync 57840/12740kbps @ 600m. - BQM

That's unlucky. Maybe they'll install FTTP and surprise you.

All the best.
