Well Openreach have refused to discuss the matter and directed me to a provider of my choice.
It seems like I'm getting nowhere with this idea so I'm ready to give up on my dream of a faster connection at my house!
No surprise there as you're not an OR customer. All dealings with OR have to be through your current or prospective phone or broadband supplier who are OR customers.
In the context of the fact they've been happy to chat with me for a couple of years now with updates over if/when the FTTP is getting rolled out it was a surprise to me.
As above, BT were of no help when I asked.
I guess I could try a few other providers but I reckon they'll all say the same.

Now I appreciate this is a long shot, but is there any way I could specify a new line came from that pole; and if so, would a line 85m long be feasible?
85m is over the maximum permitted span length for a dropwire, so it's not going to happen.

From memory, the maximum for 2-pair drop wire is something like 68m and for 4-pair 55m. There is also a requirement for taller poles to ensure clearances over roads and paths.
In practice they try to work to slightly lower limits.
