The question over Openreach profits subsidising the spend on BT Sport was put to bed, when Gavin Patterson stated pretty clearly that the investment in BT Sport was paid for by BT Consumer out of its own cash flow.
So that's all right then!!!!!!!!!

And your point? This statement confirms that Openreach income is not being used to pay for BT Consumer expenditure on TV rights. Whilst many have no choice but to use Openreach few if any have to pay or use BT Consumer products and hence contribute to BT Sport unless they choose to do so.

The BBC were complaining that they were having to pay more for sporting rights because they were now competing with BT.

The introduction of BT Sport may be good for BT and the sportsmen who sell them their rights, but it is hard to see that it benefits the end consumers.

How does that have any relevance to BT Openreach's provision of last mile connectivity? Or for that matter those who have no interest in watching over-paid sportsman kick a ball be it via the net (Sky & BT) or tv (BBC & ITV), Personally I would like to see BBC walk away rather than pay stupid prices as they have done with F1.

From my observations, Looking at areas that have FTTP availability and ThinkBroadband speed maps, punters are far more likely to buy BT for their sport than their FTTP products.

It certainly benefits BT punters who are the largest customer base of broadband customers. They get sport without the need to subscribe to Sky's very high priced pay TV.

In my view, unless you have got content, you won't mass market superfast let alone ultrafast

Didn't they used to do the same with ITV & Sky......

Perhaps if there were any brains in these media companies. They would have a quiet little chat with each other and all offer exactly the same deal... Simply tell the sports groups that if they want coverage on TV. Then they have to pay the TV co's....
End of the day. These sports need TV more than TV needs them.

As I said, the BBC, most sensibly in my view, walked away from F1.
