Long line

[link to this post]

I am on a long line - 4.5km from cabinet. How can I find out if any plans anytime for new cabinet to service my area and / or I have seen various reference to "new technologies" to increase speed over a long line on ADSL. Really difficult trying to get specific information.
BTW, am getting about 3 Mb at the moment download. Tried faster broadband but speed dropped off cliff and went to 0.75Mb!

Talk to the team running your local authority BDUK project to see if you are in their later phases maybe

VDSL2 if 4.5km from the cabinet would not sync at all in my opinion so 0.75 Mbps would be pretty amazing. The words faster broadband make it sound like a different technology to Infinity but it is just a marketing ploy nothing different technically.

Thanks for the quick response, appreciated.
Can you advise how I "talk to the local team"? Who are they and how do I contact??

Thanks,

Oh, btw, you are correct about syncing issues - the line dropped every few minutes, hundreds of errors every day!

Need to know the name of the town/village you live in to be more specific than saying Minister for Digital Matt Hancock

https://news.gov.scot/news/gbp-600-million-for-broad...

Scottish Government just announced next big phase that will run to 31st December 2021 and existing BT contract will keep delivering during 2018 but no sign of it helping you.

Think you count as central Scotland so would put you in Lot 2

Home Hubs tend not to be wondeful on long lines.

They may be old, but the original BT supplied 2-wire 2700HGV (not 2701) was the best for long unstable lines. You may want to try investing £5 or so on ebay to get one and see if your line improves. I upgraded a friend using one and he saw a 35 to 40% improvement in download speeds.
