VoIP with my router using DECT?

[link to this post]

Now that I've gotten my FTTP internet connection up and running with Zen (I have a FRITZ Box 7530), I'd like to get a "landline" connection set up. I notice that the FRITZ box has an internet telephone option in its setup screen and the capability of acting as a DECT base station, so I presume I can use my existing DECT phones with the router, but does anyone know of a list of internet telephony providers I can use with the router in this way? I asked Vonage whether I could configure it to work with their service and they said no, I had to plug their separate box into the router which I'd rather avoid (I already have 2 internet boxes in the cupboard...)

Any VoIP service that gives you the SIP details i.e. your username/password along with details of their SIP servers

e.g. https://www.voipfone.co.uk/General_Phone_Setup.php gives Voipfone details along with examples for different hardware though don't see a fritzbox

If you do that you may find that many of the phones' advanced DECT features don't work.

The Gigaset N300IP is a VOIP DECT base station that accepts a wired ethernet connection and will work well with the Gigaset DECT phones such as the C430. There is an answer phone version of the N300IP. Personally, I quite like the VOIP providers sending emails with a sound file of any voice message and warning text messages. Sipgate is quite a popular VOIP provider. My main provider is Voipfone but I route calls to mobiles via Discountvoip.

I use VOIPCheap and Sipgate with my Frtizbox. I use the router as the answerphone too and have it send messages via email. I use a Gigaset handset and all the features work fine, including syncing contacts. Yay.com will also work as will any other provider that gives out the SIP details.

I'm trying to get Voipfone working but my FritzBox's event log just keeps saying "Registration of internet telephone number XXX failed. Reason for error: Remote site not responding."

Apparently this means "the SIP details were incorrect", even though I can't see anything wrong with them. Not too helpful.

Just got a response back from Voipfone, and apparently the problem is that the FRITZ!Box insists on using SIP ALG and it can't be disabled, which seems to break SIP connections to their service for some reason. Great!

If you post your settings, maybe someone will help you. Alternatively Voipfone have a forum, also if you give them remote access to your FritzBox, they might configure the VOIP correctly for you.

Fritz!Box 7590 with 3 DECT phones all working well with AAISP VOIP. The only minor difficulty was choosing which setting I needed to get touchtones. My F!B also worked seamlessly with Yay - but AAISP has proved to be cheaper.

Yeah. It doesn't work with Voipfone, though. Quoth them: "My (limited) understanding is that the newer Fritzbox firmware doesn't like our 60 second registration intervals that make our PSTN failover diverts function."

So it can't register SIP with their service. Oh well.
