Re: Line Rental - Migrating Questions

In reply to a post by Realalemadrid:
So I would say if the OP orders a new FTTC service on the existing phone number Plusnet would request to take over the line, subject to the 10 working days anti-slamming rule. Any broadband service on the line will be ceased and replaced with the new Plusnet service. They should be able to perform a simultaneous phone/broadband order so the phone line and broadband become active on the same day. These orders sometimes don't go as smoothly as they should usually due to BT wholesale ordering system quirks.

That sounds promising, thanks for the info.

You do realise that if you move to Plusnet you are still paying for line rental as a phone line is required for the Broadband. For new customers the Broadband component is supplied for a very small amount of money, at the end of the mininum contract period this will increase dramatically so you have to negotiate (otherwise known as haggling) to get a new contract at an acceptable price.

Yeah, the introductory package with Plusnet is £24 per month for the 18 month contract, including the fibre and line rental. Then if we stay with them it goes up to £43.50 per month, but we can either move again at the end of the 18 months or even staying with them at that price would cost less than the current fibre + separate line rental (or as you say we could haggle to try to get them to offer us the same deal new people get, I guess, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it).

I tried to indicate that Plusnet policy has changed, since my days with them, particularly wrt LRS. Thanks for clarifying for the OP smile.

What you say is also obvious once you have said it! blushblush. As has always been the case, the broadband service on the current setup will simply be ceased when Plusnet take the line from the OP's partner. That technically terminating the line at the property in favour of a new occupant - the OP. With Plusnet simply setting up FTTC on it. (Not a migration, though the effect is the same).

I couldn't have been thinking straight earlier.

As a point of interest, for decades my line was with BT (Consumer). The broadband never was, and I moved it between several other suppliers. At one time the broadband was with Plusnet, and moving my line rental from BT to Pulse8broadband caused no problems. The Plusnet FTTC kept running as normal.

Later I moved the broadband to AAISP, and ultimately closed both that and the line.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.
