IDNet Webmail still works but can't find an option to divert. Good thought though, thanks.

Is there an option to forward rather than divert?

Yes, but many of my emails are notifications from addresses that do not accept replies so I have to unsubscribe and re-subscribe.

It will all be over soon 🙃

OK, I am sure you will all be pleased to learn that my email problems have been solved by changing ISP to BT

My broadband connection as you may recall is good old ADSL2 and when I signed up with BT they stated I would achieve a download speed of between 6 -8 Mbps and upload of approx 1 Mbps.

Well, the 8Meg down can be achieved but upload is 0.4 on a good day. BT router syncs at 8.096Mbps and 448K

Sending an email with anything other than text, such as small photos of 300KB is tedious.

Could someone please explain why. The BT website is hard work!

I'm not an expert, and I'm sure the folks on here who are will correct me, but I understood that the speeds they quote are just indications and averages, not guarantees in any particular case. You may just be unlucky in getting an upload speed that's worse than average. That's the nature of averages - in any distribution, unfortunately somebody has to be worse than the mean. When I had ADSL, I never got a download speed greater than 4.5Mbps (5.5km from my exchange), so it could be worse.

Upload speeds are slower than download because the ADSL signal is at its weakest when it gets to the exchange, having been attenuated by the copper line. There it comes into close proximity with lots of other lines and electrical kit generally so is particularly vulnerable to crosstalk and interference. Thus to make it sufficiently robust only lower speeds are possible.

Looks like ADSL to me, not ADSL2+. (ADSL2 is not normally configured except on problem lines or by the user on unlocked modems/modem-routers).

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.

Annex M is an option that some providers offered in the past that increased upload speeds from 300/400 upto a maximum of 1.3 Mbps. It may not be an option with BT Retail, but I suspect would be extra cost. Around 400/500 kbps upload is typical with an ADSL line through BT Wholesale on the openreach network. For faster upload people tend to upgrade to VDSL / FTTC "fibre" services.

"For faster upload people tend to upgrade to VDSL / FTTC "fibre" services"

I wish... Pigeons move faster than that around here 😊

There is some new invention called FTTC 😜 about 1.08km from my modem, but the layout of the network locally is set in stone according to Openreach and "cannot be changed!!!" 🤬 There is even an underground duct from here all the way to that cabinet just waiting for me...

With my previous ISP, I regularly achieved over 1meg upload speeds on my 3.4km copper wire connection to the exchange.
BT I am told cap upload at 448K?

But, at least my email works.

It is possible your previous ISP used a different supplier (e.g. TalkTalk Business) to provide the connection from the exchange to your home. BT Retail use the "wholesale" division (name may have changed) as their supplier.

Each has their own limits.

Annex M appears to not be available on residential.

Thanks for that.

This, https://broadbandtest.which.co.uk/ however, offers me 1.4Mbps upload??
