Getting OpenReach line installed by itself

[link to this post]

I've been looking to get an OpenReach line installed into my house, but I don't know if it's possible to do it without a broadband provider in mind. I'm guessing that most broadband providers use these OR lines (except for Virgin Media) and so if one were present, it would be cheaper to sign up to a provider later on?

I've been with Virgin Media since around 2006, and on a contract that's lasted for years, and at the moment they're charging me a small fortune (£46.50) per month for broadband only! I don't really want to haggle with them over the phone about a reduced price nor threaten to leave, so what can I do?

It is possible to get Fibre into your house without a service provider, you have to go through one. Why do you want to do things that way?

so what can I do?

If you want "full fibre" (FTTP) or "part fibre" (FTTC) via Openreach wires, you have to order from an ISP. Some areas also have alternate networks such as CityFibre, Zzoomm, or similar whom can also sell you FTTP. You can't go to Openreach or Cityfibre directly.

It makes no difference to the price, if there's a line present with no active service then the ISP pays the same setup charge as if there's no copper in place.

When you find an ISP you want to use then you order the service, and the cable will be installed.

As stated , it’s no different price wise if an old ‘stopped’ Openreach line exists or not , you don’t pay Openreach to get a ‘line’ in , then ask an ISP to supply broadband over it, thats not how it works …..basically decide what ISP you want to use based on whatever criteria is important to you , and then place an order with them , if a ‘new’ line needs to be provided it will be part of the provision process
