BT Access denied

[link to this post]

After years and years of using MyBT, two days ago I received the message "access denied". My sign on details are accepted but every time I try to access my most recent bill or even troubleshoot I get this damn message. The only thing it will let me do is logout!

I have tried on two different laptops one running Win10 the other Win11. Both OS are upto date.

I have tried with Firefox & Edge having run CCleaner beforehand to clear out cookies and cache.

I have no problem with other software eg banks & other utilities.

I have googled this and found other people with the same issue. Lots of suggestions but no workable solution has been found.

is this a problem with BT software?

Many thanks, Paul

Though doubtless of no use, but maybe offer a little sympathy.

The app logged me a couple of years ago, and NOTHING would allow me back in. Then tried to reset my login details via the process from the app …. No joy.

I gave up, and suspect it is just biding its time, till it can be its most inconvenient

Have just accessed the Business version ... signed in OK but first <Dashboard>page not available. Got to the account details but from there, plenty of pages failing.

Connected? Possibly.

MyBT hasn't worked for us in years, which is also why I have always phoned when the contract was coming to an end so that I could get a good deal.

Hmm... I usually use Chrome (on an iMac) so tried again with Safari, which has never been used for My BT before as far as I recall so shouldn't have been a cookie issue- same.

Somewhat against my better judgement (don't really like anything money-related on a mobile) I installed the iPhone app and it works fine.

Might be worthy of note that it was labelled "Essential update" in the app store, but I'm not sure what to think now.

eta- tried clearing Chrome's cookies anyway- no difference.

I wonder if it's to do with the recent Windows security update?

I long ago stopped looking at those, but the timing and the possibility of BT having some out of date code in its system that Microsoft doesn't like is worth considering.

There's an awful lot of entries for this year. Clicking on the CVE link gives a little bit of info about each one. Maybe the author of the post would know something about your problem? I expect he/she is full-time in Windows vulnerability fixing.

Thank you for all your comments. The problem appears to be with BT and occurs across all platforms & browsers. It would have been more helpful if a user friendly message had been displayed rather than "access denied".

I eventually managed to get the following message from: https://my.bt.com/s/apps/appsmybt/#/error.

Sorry, we can’t get your account details at the moment.
We’re trying to fix the problem at the moment. Please come back later.

I had the 'access denied' yesterday when clicking through and logging in from a 'view my latest bill' email. So something is up their end.

Hi,
I have seen this on the BT Wholesale side as well impacting a lot of my users, I have a fix but we are pushing BT Group to fix as its a server side SSL config issue.
The workaround is enabling old versions of SSL and using IE mode, we are doing this in VMs at the moment as we don't want devices exposed.

Many Thanks,
