Speed test

Anything wrong with the tbb speedtester as no dial pointer movement or results, then used Ookla and got a test speed result for the EE mobile via a router connection?

There shouldn't per se be anything preventing testing via VPN.. it could affect performance.. there are some weird issues I see with VPNs and generally breaking things on some public wi-fi networks to do with MTU sizes I think..

I don't do speed tests with the VPN switch on, you can lose a bit of speed doing that and sometimes it just don't work.
It is interesting to see what you lose with the VPN switch on.

On a 1gbit connection I can get around 300Mbit using OpenVPN and 700Mbit using wireguard.

This is using PIA.

NextDNS (subscription) - Unifi for Wifi

using a vpn browser addon, i lost about 100mbits single threaded download - x6 was compareable, but the upload was more sporadic and was hitting 145mbit/s on a 110 upload

And that was a with a good vpn, lesser known vpns with not enough bandwidth will be worse along with differing pc/mac cpu performance.
