When to switch ISP ?

[link to this post]

My first post on here
My Sky contract ends on the 23rd of October are there such things as black Friday deals on broadband?
My dilemma is if I find a deal I like the look of do I switch in the run-up to the 23rd or hang fire see if there are any deals in November?

There will certainly be black friday deals out there. Whether any of them meet your specific requirements I wouldn't know as not all packages and not all ISPs will have discounts. It's a gamble as to whether you temporarily pay a likely higher rate from the end of your contract until you can see the black friday deals or whether you take the plunge and take whatever good deal you can get before hand. It's also possible if you are waiting for Sky to do good deals that they might only offer black friday deals to new customers (I don't know if this is how Sky do it).

It will be just over a month from end of contract to black friday but you also need to factor it will take likely 10 days to do the switch. So, you have 6-7 weeks I would say where you will probably be paying a higher rate with Sky.

It's a gamble. Only you can decide whether the gamble is worth it. If you do decide to get a new contract before black friday then I would suggest not looking at the ISP black friday deals as you will only get annoyed smile

How much per month are you currently paying Sky for broadband and what speed package?

Looks like I'll probably chicken out just before the end of the contract as I'm a rubbish gambler
I know what I'm looking for in any deals it's just the timing I'm considering
While looking on one switch site and offer from Sky pops up pay the same but get a speed increase so that's the safe option

£28 sounds a good price for someone coming off a 18/24 month contract, although the last time I switched provider I did get a Black Friday deal I don't think I would go out of contract and pay the Sky full price to get one as not all packages are available during black friday and you may be out of pocket afterwards. The last time I switched I went from Sky to Plusnet and to be honest I personally prefer Plusnet.

Have looked at Plusnet but for now I'd like to keep the landline as it's mainly only the NHS and the care firm we use it these days others I've considered are Talk Talk and EE but they charge extra for landlines so it's Vodafone or Sky the 2 main contenders at the moment but plenty of time for things to change

First thing is to wait and see what prices Sky offer you to renew the contract with them, if its a lot higher give them a call and see if they are willing to move on price and hopefully you can get to an acceptable price.

Find what other ISPs are selling 100M for, then call their "retentions" and ask them whether they can match it. Call a month before the contract end, which gives you a chance to call them again two weeks before, if you don't like their first offer. And if you still don't like it, then you can always switch.

This article is mainly focused on people taking Sky TV but is still worth a read:
