I'm looking for recommendations for a new mouse. I currently have a Logitech MX1000 Wireless Laser mouse which I love however it keeps loosing connection to the receiver. I've raised a support request with Logitech but it appears that it is on it's way out and nothing can be done.
So after 4 years of the MX1000 I'm looking for a new mouse. Any recommendations?
Regards,
Stuart

Before you jump at a new mouse, is your receiver in the back/front of the PC, or on your desk?
I had no end of jumpy cursor with my Logitech mouse, and the simple solution was buy a 2M USB extension cable. Now the receiver sits about two feet from the mouse (with no desk between the mouse and the receiver). Never had a problem since.
I've got something like this, but an older version.

Hi Camie,
The receiver sits on my desk about 3ft away from my mouse, where it has done for the last 4 years. It's only the last 2 - 3 weeks it has started playing up. I've done various diagnostics with Logitech (including testing with / without the software and in another PC). Logitech's response is that the unit is now "defect"
Logitech's latest response:
As I understand the cursor for you MX1000 has stopped responding to any mouse movements. It seems like the mouse loses connection to the Receiver. Unfortunately if you test it on another PC and it has the same symptoms then it a very clear sign that the product is defect.
PS. I'm very happy with my keyboard (MS Natural) and am only looking to replace the mouse.
Regards,
Stuart

Well personally I would go for a similar mouse if happy with Logitech (four years seems a little quick to replace one though). My current kb & mouse is 5+ years old.
If I had to change right now, I would be looking for a mouse with a recharge cradle. My one has a recharge cable, which is slightly annoying if it wants juice when I'm busy. A cradle would recharge every day/night.

Trust me I wouldn't be looking if it wasn't for the fact that the mouse can't be used for more than a couple of minutes before it loses connection to the receiver.
Sometime you can re-establish connection by pressing the reset button on the mouse, other times (and sometimes even this doesn't work) you have to press the reset buttons on both the receiver and the mouse.

That sounds exactly like my old wireless mouse problems.
I wonder if it might be the receiver. No chance you can test it either out elsewhere to make sure?

Could even be interference from something else. Cordless phone, wireless router - anything like that near the receiver?

In my experience all rf wireless mice are like that. They only work well at a distance with full batteries or at one foot from the receiver, anything else and they become extremely annoying.

I haven't added anything or changed anything for several months. The only thing that is near (about 6 - 8ft from the receiver) that *may* cause interference is a Cisco 877 Wireless router which has been there for about 18 months.

If it has rechargeable batteries in it they are possibly at the end of their life & not holding charge. Have you tried changing them?

The MX1000 has a charger cradle (which is also the receiver). I did originally think the battery in the mouse was going. Logitech state this is not replaceable, however you can change it (various guides will tell you which battery you need) and I did but it didn't make any difference.

I take it both the mouse and the receiver's 'optics' are clean and obstruction-free? Not likely, but you never know.

I bought my cordless Logitech MX Revolution about 3.5 years ago and have not had a single problem with it. That said, the batteries don't last as long as they used to (I am having to charge after about 4 days of heavy use as opposed to about 12 in the beginning).. Currently, I am thinking about getting another Logitech as their mice are incredibly comfortable to use. I am looking at the Performance Mouse MX.. Expensive, admittedly, but while I was looking at it I noticed that Logitech are doing a trade in on old products here meaning I can send in an old keyboard that I really dislike and get 20% off a nice new rodent..

I have that Logitech Cordless Desktop® MX 5500 Revolution too. I preferred the Logitech Elite k/b and original lazer 1000 mouse.
Was looking at Logitechs Unifying software - it enables connecting 5 k/bs andor mice. Ill be using some older stuff, which I still have. Looking at my other charged right now, and a BETTER k/b than the Revolution one.
If you look at the Revolution mouse, nice, but I'm left-handed.
Look at the Umifying software. I'm about to try it. Money saved. Maybe.

IF your mouse light goes red after flashing green to charge, don't panic. Make sure the mouse is put in correctly, and STAYS flashing.

|
Look at the Umifying software.
Does it make your mouse and keyboard go "Um"?
Trying to see the point of having multiple kbs and mice (multi-player games?).

Corrected typo.
Major reason for using the unifying s/w is that IF you still have an old k/b & or mouse, but have not got the Logitech BT dongle, it could maybe make them usable again?
Dunno, not bothered testing yet.

I saw that mouse on the Logitech website and was quite taken with it. Also it's only £54.99 on Amazon.
I'll have a final look tonight and if I don't see anything else I'll order it.
Many thanks for all the replies.

Am just about to get a Performance MX - my old Laser 1000 has just failed (worn out) and I have been more than happy with performance, fell, function &c so there was no real decision to be made.
