CD/DVD gone?

[link to this post]

Hi all.
My CD/DVD drive has stopped being recognised, it does open and close however. Under "my computer" it has gone. Under "Device manager" there now appears to be a problem with one of the drivers. It shows as the one of the RAID drives, but if you delete it and rescan, it appears briefly as the IDE drive, before comming back with an error, unable to start again.
I have tried re-flashing the BIOS, to no effect.
When you boot up the drive is listed in green during POST, and "press any key to continue"?
The motherboard is a gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 about 4 months old:

My question is does anyone have any ideas if this is a hardware or driver problem.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Carl.

Have you tried updating or reinstalling the mobo chipset drivers?
