Laptop Screen Issue

Hey guys,

A while ago the screen on my laptop started to have issues. The picture became blurred and the colours distorted (e.g. on the windows 7 load up screen its meant to be black but its green and fuzzy). Initially this happened periodically. Shuting down, leaving it for a bit then returning would fix it. But now its permanent.

To rule out my Video card i plugged in a monitor and it works fine.
I opened up my laptop and re-seated the video connections on the LCD and the motherboard, but the issue is still there.

I have now just replaced the LCD (which cost me a [censored] £100!!!!) and still, it did not fix the issue.

The only thing left is the inverter but from what i read its not likely to be this.

Any help to what it could be would be greatly welcomed.

Ribbon cable?

Had a similar problem on my work laptop and a colleague had it on their father's laptop. In both cases it turned out to be an issue with the graphics chip - nothing to do with the screen at all. Both had Nvidia graphics chips and seems to be a known problem. I know my colleague found a temporary fix for it on the net but don't know what it was.

My work laptop was fixed by replacing the motherboard - not the best option for a privately owned laptop though...

This thread might help - especially if it is a Dell that has the problem.

PS - In both cases external monitors worked find and it was still the GPU.
