Re: Inkjet Printer running costs - who's the best

I have an epson sx515w

I pay £10 for 16 cartidges which is 4 refills. They are not genuine but are fine

I last purhcased ink in September and still going strong.

The printer does an amazing job of cleaning the cartidges and not ever getting clogged up or having any issues

So happy with it

No doubt lookalike carts have improved, but I still remain nervous, having had to replace an Epson printer years ago after using a cheapo cart. I warned my son - naturally he ignored me and had a similar experience.

For my Canon I buy the real thing but shop around for the best price - which usually means online ordering the real thing from the Channel Islands. Still far more expensive than a lookalike though. I never go near PCW!

But of course straightforward printers are as cheap as chips to replace now, so it's up to you.

Been using third part ink on my canon for over 2 years now, now using a place in the Amazon shop, £10 for two sets is pretty good.

Quality is fine, the only problem I have is that they never send the same make. I got Inkrite, jetplay and some unnamed one. But they are ok and quality is good.

My last canon lasted just over 12 months, which was annoying, but it broke because a roller flew out, nothing to do with ink.

But bear in mind that compatible cartridges tend to cause blocked injets much more readily than the genuine cartridges. I started using compatibles but found that the frequent cleaning (of all the inject colours even when only one is blocked) used more ink and in the long term wasted paper more often so the genuine cartidges were better value for money. Just buy them in the right place to get them at a good price such as the chanel islands supliers.

Always Epson for me - The compatibles are far cheaper, as well as the print-heads (VERY expensive with others).

I have used refills for several years an no problems, apart from the odd one that just does not work.
