Very slow after a while

[link to this post]

I'm on 1Gb service. The other day I noticed the internet speed was low, so I went to speed.hyperoptic.com to check and it was indeed slow (around 30Mb up / 4Mb down).
I reset the Hyperoptic router (Tilgrin) and speed improved massively, around 500Mb up/down (seems OK for a WiFi connection),
The problem is it didn't last, the next day it was again very slow, and the same every day, high speed don't last for more than 24 hs (or less, since I'm not checking the speeds every time).

What can be the reason?

You'll need to test on a wired connection so we can rule out interference from your neighbour's devices and such.

Vodafone FTTP - 500/500
Giffgaff - 4G

Hello there! We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing speed issues. Testing over cable connection is a good idea! The test can be done in the following way:

make sure that the Hyperoptic router is disconnected and unplugged
connect your device (laptop or a PC) via an Ethernet cable directly to the Hyperoptic socket
when the connection is established, open a browser (preferably not Chrome) and go to speed.hyperoptic.com

If the test is good (above 700Mbps), since the router is the device responsible for distributing the WiFi signal, send us a quick e-mail to [email protected]. We'll offer a replacement free of charge. Let us know if this advice was helpful!

I will have to try with an USB adapter anyway, since I have no laptops with ethernet connector.

So far, Google Chrome has shown lower speeds (not in all the cases) in comparison to other browsers (even when using other servers for testing speeds). You can, of course, try running the test on various browsers to compare the results and check the difference (if there is any). In addition to this, if using Chrome, you can also set it to Incognito Window and run another test, as the results may be closer to the ones run when using other browsers.
