so... hows things?

So after moving here to the UK from Australia about a year ago, and knowing little better, I signed up with Tiscali for my ADSL. Little did I know that I had thrown my lot in with easily the worst ISP I could possibly have chosen. With the contract up, and news reports forecasting a monumental Tiscali cluster-frack on the horizon , I am now eagerly looking for a new provider to migrate to.

I have my MAC code in hand and I am looking at IDnet, mianly because of their seemingly high customer satisfaction (Especially on this forum!). But I notice, from posts made in this forum in February, that IDnet were having a rough patch in regards to speeds and service reliability. These things happen, but I was curious as to whether these issues have since been resolved? Are people still as ebullient about IDnet? or are there still a few lingering issues?

Things have settled down well since February, the new capacity is fully online and I haven't noticed any speed or ping issues in the past month - I average 22ms to IDNet on an interleaved line. If you check out the user forum www.idnetters.co.uk, you'll get an extra view of how people feel.

I'd certainly recommend IDNet, but then I would say that.

Those people that are on Idnet are very happy with the service and also the quick and efficient response to anything that may occur. By far one of the very best providers in the UK.

Despite the spate of problems earlier this year, I have no regrets about migrating to IDNet from Zen. It really is the No 1 ISP in the UK, offering superb service coupled with highly proffessional and friendly customer support.

It's true IDNet has a good customer service, certainly better than the one from Tiscali. The only problem might be the fact that IDNet only uses BT-based infrastructure, hence they are not immune to problems caused by BT. If you can't get LLU at your local exchange (e.g. O2), and if you are willing to pay a little bit more than other ISPs, then IDNet is the right choice.

Yes, that's is right. I agree with Barbazoom. I do miss my IDNet.

I'd love to agree because I really did like Idnet, however after the latency problems earlier this year that seem to go on (and on), I don't see them quite that way.

Yes, that's is right. I agree with Barbazoom. I do miss my IDNet.

Whats wrong with surfwise? Not getting 7Mbit 24/7 on your shared service? Shocking that!

Have you checked whether anyone has unbundled your exchange?

HI hope this helps I have been with Idnet now for 12 months and you will not regret moving here if what you want is simply great customer service and an excellent provider.I migrated from Tiscali so know what you went through.
Im no that technically minded Idnet had a few problems which,and imo this is the crux of it sorted it out very quickly and I cant speak for any other providers but to me this is the test of quality in that the problem was resolved in the quickest way possible.
My service is just there and that is all I want,when I switch my pc on and log on its there ...who can asked for anything else from a provider.things do go wrong with everything in life.the test is how such things are dealt with.
Idnet support are brilliant.
Im still here and have no intention of moving....hope this helps you will understand what I mean when you are here.There is no long contract either its only a month and have a look around you wont see any mass migrations.
Yu have made a very good choice and one you wont regret.to me bing online is now taken for granted, with IDnet as my provider I know I will have a good solid speed with no restrictions on throttling nor do you ever get a scripted response to any issues......
Well its not much but hope it helps you and I still remember how I felt when I moved,believe me you made the right choice.

We have only been with IDNet for 3 days but ........ we have been with numerous ISPs over the years .. and then the last 2 were Zen and NewNet (whose CS was excellent) but have had one problem throughout - very slow speeds even tho we are 100metres from our exchange. The exchange is full to bursting so we're pretty sure that is the problem.
We have always been told in the past that there is nothing the ISP can do and yet at the first phone call with IDNet they have contacted BT and have had an agreement from them (BT ) to move us onto another pipe which should improve things .. altho if it is congestion there is another package from IDNet where you pay to have premium line service (Priority) which we may well consider ..
Anyways the upshot is that yes, I too would say that IDNet are so far (having had 12 ISPs since the early 90s) far and away the best ..

In the unlikely event you are unhappy, the contract is only for one month. But I bet you'll love IDNet
