PPP/ speed issues

[link to this post]

After about 3 pm, my download speeds began to decrease from 7-6.5 mbps to 4 mbps. At around 4.10 pm I lost my connection to IDNet. I remained synced to the exchange. I repeatedly tried to reconnect to the service but could not. Eventually
I powered down my router, waited and was able to connect immediately. However, download speeds remain relatively poor at 5.5-3.5 mbps and falling. Any known issue?

I've heard of a couple of people who seem to have had PPP problems this weekend, but no-one seems to have any speed issues.

Throughput is more or less normal now at just below 7 mbps.

Could a weak connection to IDNet reduce download speed?

It depends what you mean by weak. If you're have lots of resyncs, then your profile is likely to be depressed and/or your target noise margin increased. If there are a lot of errors on the line, then interleaving depth is likely to be increased and possible you will need frequent re-transmissions as well.

No sync loss. My profile is unchanged. My line is not interleaved. Anyways, all's well now.

Then how do you define a weak connection?

Between BT and ISP? There have been problems with the Centrals recently, requiring network rebalancing. Or is that just daft in the context of my post?

I wouldn't call that weak, personally. The re-balancing certainly has affected speeds for a handful of users, but it's been complete for a week or so now.

I queried probblems last week and the following is part of the reply that I received on the 7th August. on ADSL1 Max not the new product.

"We are still working on optimising the traffic to eliminate
such issues. Please bear with us at this time."
