Hi all,
I'm thinking of moving from NewNet as I'm using about 80GB a month and it's getting far too expensive (£20 for 1st 20GB and then £1.60 per GB after that).
The Home SuperMax looks a pretty good deal but I was wondering what the speed of IDNet is like in the evening when the kids play their online games. Having had a *really* bad experience with Virgin ADSL in the evenings and with NewNet being so good, I'm a bit wary.
Is the speed ok or does it drop off?
Thanks,
Steve

TBH, apart from during the Wimbledon mania, I've never seen any speed drop off at any time, except when there was a BT fault on one of the centrals. IDNet had it sorted for me in minutes. If you're on a WBC enabled exchange, you can get much better allowances and potentially more speed, btw.

Are you not making use of NewNets Unlimited off peak usage then?

Between 2am and 7am? Er, no.

You are basically still using BT infrastructure and services re-packaged and re-sold by IDNet. Even though IDNet has a better customer service, you can still expect to experience the normal problems associated with copper-wire based ADSL technology. Even an 80GB allowance is small, and none of the ADSL packages offers anywhere near enough decent upload speeds.
In short, don't expect miracles, just carefully consider the options and be aware of the limitations imposed by IDNet because of BT.

Between 2am and 7am? Er, no.
I just thought with that sort of traffic some could be scheduled overnight.
I use on average around 10-15GB a month and whilst an online gamer and download the odd linux distro, couldn't see how I could use more. Each to their own I suppose.

I've found pings and download speeds to usually be very good at peak times on Idnet.

I moved from a dreadful UKOnline connection and have now had a constant flawless Idnet one for 2 months. As Rik says, no change on speeds at any time of the day.

It is a bit of a mystery as to how we use so much, but it's not the kind of thing that can be scheduled. I've found the online games use about 100Meg an hour so when the PC, XBox and Wii all get going it adds up I suppose.
Thanks, anyway.
