PPP issue?

[link to this post]

I returned home about 10.20 am to find that I did not have a PPP connection. Every time I tried to connect I got the Authenication failed message. I phoned IDNet and left a message. Fifty minutes later, I have my Net connection back but no explanation of what might have gone wrong. I had a brief PPP problem last Saturday so its getting a tad worrying:

Anybody else affected?

Lots of people:

We currently have a problem with a database server which is causing problems with mail and portal access. Radius logins may also be slower than normal.

Thanks, Bill smile I'd just read this Netter's post:

A recorded message from Support would be a good idea. I would put an end to puzzlement on thep art of the user and prevent Support being inundated with queries.

I was back online at 11.34 am.

I have just made a thread about this as obviously this one was made at the same time.

I tried the out of hours number but got no reply. mad

The last time this happened (approximately a month ago) it was a Sunday morning and my connection was off all day, at least this time it came back after a fairly short time.

Its all well and good having the best support staff but not being able to get information about connection problems at the weekend is frustrating to say the least.

Does anyone know what caused it?

Nothing definite as far as I know, but some suspicion it may be related to the upgrade work that BT have scheduled for this weekend.

I phoned 01462476556 and it just rang and rang. Eventually, I called the usual free number and was advised to leave message after the tone. As I said to Bill, a recorded status message would be a boon to users and support staff alike when these things happen. Anway, this is the explanation:

2009-08-16 11:26: Problems with one of our database servers caused some services to be unavailable or running very slowly. The server has been rebooted and all services should now be running as normal.

The issue looks set to run. I lost PPP briefly at 12.07 pm. Sync not affected.

The 556 number is no longer in use following the office move. Use the freefone number or the underlying geographic 01462 480092.

The failure meant that calls to the OOH number weren't getting through to support either. I'm hoping we will be able to find a workaround so that IDNetters staff can make direct contact in future.

Possibly the BT planned work, in addition there's a major MUX fault.

Thanks, I've noted the new geographic number...but what about a recorded status message at times like this? It would be an asset to users and save support time/sanity.
