Need a new router

[link to this post]

So my elderly Vigor is on the verge of conking out so I guess its time for a new one and probably time to go wireless.

Is there anything remotely resembling consensus in the Mac community about the best combo of bang-for-a-buck and future proofing? I'm on a regular ADSL (get about 4mb) connection with BT phone and Nildram, but that may be subject to change of course.

Looks promising.

Worth getting he 'n' version (which you seem to have in your sig)?

If your Mac supports 802.11n and you transfer/stream heavy files then go for it!

If price isn't an issue I'd get an Apple Base Station to do the routing and a simple modem to do the ADSL part. I use Netgear DG834v4 for modem.

For a slight premium over more home centric offerings the Draytek Vigor 2820 series of routers offer 802.11n vers2 wifi (~300mbps for enabled macs), they offer enterprise grade VPN/SPI firewall and also allow failover connectivity using a USB 3G dongle in case the ADSL drops.

We have several installed in mac only client sites, I use one at home and they are utterly reliable.

Like Kigs says if your Mac's airport cards are N and you can afford it go for it.

I bought one actually, Gigabit Ethernet like the base station but it's chipset doesn't work so well on my Annex M ADSL 2+, particularly the upload. It has some nice features just that I don't need them including the firewall. I prefer the base station which also supports NAT-PMP.

Two options I can think of here:

1) Buy a Draytek Vigor 2820n
2) Buy a Apple Airport Extreme and plug a Draytek ADSL modem in the back.
