>>Am I missing something? He should be able to send via your SMTP server regardless of the state of Tiscali's email. TBH I'd suggest that he sets up an ISP-independent email address, with someone like 1and1 or Purple Cloud, then provided Tiscali hasn't completely fallen over he'll have email...
The non-Tiscali e-mail he has is through my website, which is hosted by 1and1. The problem is that even if you enter the 1and1 server (i.e. auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk) it won't connect. It seems that the only SMTP he can send e-mail through is Tiscali's (even forcing it out on port 587 doesn't work) - he's tried it on both his Mac (Mac Mail) and PC (OE). I will have a look next time I go over, but as far as I can guage from the details he's given me, everything is setup correctly his side. He's happy to forget about it and simply use the e-mail through 1and1's webmail service, but thinks like this bug me, so I'm interested in trying to find a workaround!
I suggested a different ISP (I was once a Tiscali customer) but he didn't seem keen.
Cheers,
Marc.
