The up to date scheme costs £7.95 for UK users and $9.95 for US users. If it reflected the true exchange rate then it would cost £5.87, or £5.95 for the sake of making it look a nicer more Apple-friendly figure.

The Irish will be paying �8.95 to update their recently purchased new Macs under the scheme. Going by the exchange rate that should be �6.95.

When apps start to take advantage of the new features such as GCD and OpenCL you should see some pretty hefty performance gains. From a user point of view there aren't that many new features in SL, but from an architectural standpoint it's got a lot new in it.

The USA price does not include sales tax. You need to factor in 15% VAT which adds another £1 to the UK price.

However if you get a First day or first week or first month shipment of SL - apply the first rule of software survival - do not be the first person to install it, and preferably wait for the third point release to have been shipped and installed before you go ahead with the install of SL.

A slightly slow but predictable environment is a more satisfactory work environment than a bleeding edge adventure.
