I wonder if its down to the speed of the storage/flash chips, if the standard phone users cheaper flash it probably can't transfer at the higher speeds. Anyone done a file copy over USB speed test with any Android phones? Someone must now...

Looks like the Pro's support 3.2 Gen2 which is the insane terminology that the USB Forum have come up with... they've made the USB version numbering more of a mess than Apple.

and in 2015/2016, Apple was one of the first makes to adopt the USB-C port, on the laptops...!

Such a storm in a tea cup. It isn't Apple that made USB messy.

Apple know what percentage of their users ever transfer any data over the cable nowadays (in the age of cloud services and streaming). I'll bet it is well under 1% of their customers.

USB-IF are insane in their naming and logos. They've just rebooted everything to get rid of version numbers and just use speed instead.

Yep, they went "PC/Mac free" years ago, only time you may need a computer connection is to offload photos or video if you can't use WiFi. The people doing this are likely those Pro's using RAW / ProRAW video, and that is why the Pro models have the higher speed connection.

That makese sense. The reason on MacRumors which makes the most sense is that the 15 / 15 Plus have the old SoC A16 from the iPhone 14 Pro which was only designed for lightning, and the 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max have the new SoC A17 which has the USB 3 support built in...!
