A friend of mine has moved out into the sticks and has dumped the 0.5mbs adsl in favour of using Three mobile bb. Is it possible to use Sipgate VOIP on Three mobile network as he then could get rid of the phone line all together?

That's exactly what I have successfully done.

Same here. Works a treat.

What VOIP adapter are you using?
|
|
|
|
Granstream HT801 with my original Panasonic wireless handsets. Setup is very easy using the sipgate instructions. The router is a Huawei B525.

|
Two, a Cisco SPA112 adapter plugged into router and a phone plugged directly into a B525 with a firmware which included Voip. Both ring with both numbers registered with Sipgate, one of the numbers was ported across from BT so no need to give out new number.

He has a B593s-22 and according to what I have read you need to update to the latest firmware to get it to work, which is currently quite elusive.

Why doesnt he just ditch landline numbers completely. I assume his will change with the move.
I have the Three unlimited SIM only in my phone, and the HomeFi because of cloud-based security cameras. No landline. I ditched that this time last year.
Edit: And unless he has something like the cameras, which I only got later, I just tethered my laptop to the phone.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

you can keep the same number

If the VoIP can be made to work he will port the phone number to Sipgate
|
|
|
You can't port a Birmingham landline number to a Manchester landline phone. That's why I asked.
Yes he could port his existing phone number to VOIP before he moves and have that on VOIP, but why bother?
Note!!
The person has already moved, so possibly already has a new number.

I setup a new Sipgate account a couple of weeks ago. Using a Linksys PAP2T off ebay (cheap).
This one is not running on Three, but otherwise the setup was easy, and the call quality good.
Separately, I believe that Three give you a public IP, no CGNAT, so Voip should work fine. Maybe others could confirm.

Don't know how accurate or how old it is but this site states:
"ONLY THREE MOBILE PROVIDE PUBLIC IP ADDRESSES BUT ONLY ON THEIR 3G CONNECTIONS AND THIS IS NOT A GUARANTEED SERVICE"
https://www.3grouterstore.co.uk/3G/FAQ.html
However this page from a year ago suggests EE should be well into the roll out of ipv6 by now, it was at 28.5% a year ago:
https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2018/10/mobile...
When checking on whatsmyip with EE,I am seeing an ipv4 (in the range 213.205.240.xx) and an ipv6 address. So I am guessing it is not using CGNAT if it shows an ipv6 address?

I've been using a Three 4G connection for the last year as resilience for FTTC and can confirm that Three provide a public IP address provided the APN is configured to be "3internet". If the APN is set to "three.co.uk", they allocate a private CGNAT IP address. The public IP address is fairly dynamic; it changes at irregular intervals and probably once or twice a week on average.

But they won't be using cgnat with ipv6?

But they won't be using cgnat with ipv6?
Is it a globally-routeable IPv6 address or just a link-local address (starting "fe80")? If the latter, it's not useable externally.
[Edit: Sorry: if you're seeing it on whatsmyip, it can't be a local address.]

Grandstream HT801 arrived and working..
I was looking at the router settings and the APN is set to Tele2.se and cannot be changed, I take it this because he bought a semi locked one on an auction site.

APN is set to Tele2.se and cannot be changed That surprises me, is there no dropdown or button to push to change it as .se is Sweden

Probably supplied by Tele2 at a large discount! Might not be easy to unlock.

Hello, I am looking at a similar setup
Are you using only one telephone handset or 1x each for the SPA112 & another for the B525 in order to use use of the inclusive minutes on your sim card ?
