Re: ethernet to adsl conversion

[re: lookus] [link to this post]

Hi

Unless stated by the ADSL router that it also supports routing from an Ethernet WAN connection it will not work as a router using an Ethernet port to connect the WAN.

Very few ADSL routers will route using an Ethernet port, if they do they advertise the fact quite clearly as often they are sold at a premium to have this feature or include them as a fail over mechanism.

Regards

Phil

Perhaps if the OP could give us more information about his system we could be more targetted in our help, but it does occur to me that he bought his adsl modem/router in error. Domestic ethernet routers can be obtained for as little as £16, perhaps he should get one

In reply to a post by lookus:
bought a ADSLl 2+ wireless 300Mbps modem router in a hurry.
it has an ADSL input & 4 LAN 10/100 outputs.
The thing is I have and ethernet connection so i have to find a way to match the ethernet cable with the ADSL input.
the only thing thats comes to my mind is an ETHERNET TO ADSL CONVERTER.
Can some1 tell me where can such a thing be found or to give me some technical advices?
Hi, I am intrigued, can you please tell me what the Ethernet cable is connected to? Could it be an, ADSL microfilter, ADSL filtered faceplate, ADSL modem, Virgin cable modem.

this means I have to reverse the ethernet cable channels(the internet provider cable that is)?
so that the router LAN port's Tx should the input ethernet cable's RX and viceversa?

Most modern Ethernet ports are auto-sensing and will swap TX/RX channels automatically.

Why don't you just plug in and try?
