Very Low IP Profile

[link to this post]

I have had ADSLMAX for nearly two years now, but all of a sudden my IP Profile has dropped down to 500 kbps and i dont understand why. My speeds have always been about 6.5Mbps before. What can i do to help get it back up.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 457 kbps

P.S. I am changing ISP to ADSL24 (from Namesco) next wednesday 23rd, Does the line go through the process to find the MSR again?

Yuk!

Nothing to be done for the moment. After 3 days at 8128 sync the profile should go to 7Mbps.

Why it dropped is another question. Did someone plug something in without a filter and not tell you? For profile 500, you had a sync between 576 and 1120.

Re migration and MSR, basically no, no full retrain. Some ISPs say they ask for it, but very few people seem to get it.

Thats the thing, its been more that 3 days, its been for about 14 days now. Could it be a stuck profile.

also, jut had a think why it could have happened.
Last month i unplugged the RJ11 from the router cos i was vewry near my limit.
My brother needed the internet and he plugged in the RJ11 into one of he RJ45 ports (with the router on). Could this have cause it??

My new ISP (ADSL24) say it could have been a spike on the line or a faulty filter. I have replaced the filter 2 days ago. But i didnt think of my bro ramming the line cable in the network port untill now.

What you guys think? stuck profile?

thanks for the quick reply

Well the good news is that nothing is broken your end - as you are getting the 8128 sync!

I would ask ADSL24 whether they do a full retrain - if they do then wait. But don't necessarily believe them too easily if there is a rapid "yes". If they don't, ask whether they could in this case as a special - I don't see much harm in telling them why.

Or probably better, get on to Namesco quick! Get them to get it reset, or at least unstuck. (Never heard of a 500 stuck b4, just 2000).

Just to let you know - if the profile is still stuck on 500 Kbps when you migrate over to us we will get in contact with BT for you, to get them to reset the IP profile as it's clearly wrong...

James, I phoned Names at 6pm today to tell them about it and explained all.
He said he send an email to BT explain about my IP profile and to ask them to "reset" it. They guy said it should be done anytime between Monday morning and Tuesday night (migration is wednesday) So it should hopefully be sorted out before the change over to ADSL24.

Thanks everyone

There's my story.

Wednesday 23rd - Mirgrated about 2pm - No problems - IP Profile moved from 500kbps to 2000kbps

Thursday 24th - Ip profile 2000kbps

Friday 25th - IP Profile still 2000kbps - Started to get worried of a stuck profile

Saturday 26th (19:36) - IP Profile still 2000kbps - Took Screenshot and sent it to ADSL24

Saturday 26th (19:42) - YES, a reply in 6 minutes!!!! Problem logged with BT

Sunday 27th - IP Profile reset - Speeds flying high again

Excellent... just excellent!!

I can not get over how quickly my internet has been resolved. The Customer Support is fantastic - best i'll ever received ever (namesco, had good support, but nowhere near ADSL24)

Thanks to everyone who help, esp ADSL24

I can not get over how quickly my internet has been resolved.

I think it's all down to the relationship your ISP may have with BT (your provider, being ADSL24, will be using Entanet as the ISP, so it would have been Entanet that reported the fault to BT).
Some of it, no doubt, is also down to luck (depends if your ISP ends up talking to some numpty in BT's Indian call centre, or whether they get though to someone that's actually good at their job and listens to the call, rather than making up their mind based on pre-conceived opinions on what the fault might be, whilst hearing "blah, blah, blah," from the caller).
