Connectivity error

[link to this post]

I have had broadband for 3 years and used the same router a D-Link with no problems, untill 2 weeks ago the computer displayed Lan icon saying limited connctivity. I had no access to the router, but also the only led lit was the power.
Tried power off and end the end press the reset button.
So purchased a new router and this worked fine untill today when after booting up the connectivity error came on. Tried rebooting the pc but no good, so powered off the router and its fine again.
There must be a silly reason for this any ideas would be welcome.

Do your router logs contain any relevant information that you could post?

It always helps if you say how your PC is connected to the router and what the status of the lights on the router are.

Checked router log and there is nothing to indicate a problem.

The PC is connected by ethernet cable.

Checking the net it appears that there is a bug in SP2 for XP, but I would have thought it would have happened a long time ago.

I will have another look at the pcs event log.

You could try another Ethernet cable. Loose or misaligned contacts at either end of the cable plug or the PC/router sockets can cause the limited connectivity message.
