Hi all,
I've had this problem in the past, and the issue has risen its ugly head again.
Since having the line connected in my new home back in January 10, i had to get an engineer out early doors due to the downstream rate constantly dropping, it went from 8096kbps down to 3500kbps. After a lot of arguing and having the engineer to my home, it sorted itself. Fast forward to now, and here we go again.
3 days ago i started having problems having a decent experience on Xbox Live. I check to see what wireless channel others are using in my street to prevent interference (i use inSSIDer). Whilst changing the channel i noticed that the downstream had dropped to 7332kbps. At this point i got on the phone and had the 'beautiful' experience of speaking to BT technical support. When they said 'you have problem with slow speed' i said No, as it wasn't a problem with the speed, but the downstream.
The advisor said i should change the wireless channel to improve the 'speed' however i know that this isn't the case. Its not the speed i'm bothered about, it was the fact that my line wasn't being stable anymore at the 8096kbps as it had been in the past 8 months. I ended up ending the call when she said there was no fault on the line and that i was receiving a good speed; well for my £24.99 a month i was paying certainly wasn't happy.
I contacted the cancellation department and after pulling the plug on the Hub it returned to the 8096kbps. I've gone out shopping tonight turning the laptop off, and on returning its dropped yet again to 7332kbps.
I have to wait until January before i can cancel to change ISP as i'm not happy anymore.
I think it has something to do with my IP profile and have asked them to get the engineer to reset it at the exchange or to sort it from their end, but i'm not an expert. Could anyone help me with preparing 'bullets' to fire at them, before i head over to make a complaint to Ofcom.
Here are my stats, it hasn't been on long, as i rebooted it, however will post again in a few hours should it change:
