convert a virgin netgear router to O2

[link to this post]

Hi there
I am one of the unfortunates to have been hit by O2 stopping their routers from setting up VPN connections. I have tried repeatedly to reconfigure the firmware, and it doesn't work, the process just get to 60%, freezes, and then stops all together.
A friend has given me his old Netgear WGR614 v9, but it has a default setting for virgin broadband, is there anyway to override this so I can use it for O2?
Anyone able to help?
cheers

That router has NO ADSL modem in it.

So you need a device to terminate the ADSL line and bridge the connection to the WGR device

A device like your current O2 supplied ADSL wireless router (I guess that is what you are currently using). You need to find an ADSL wireless router which supports VPN on O2. Have you tried asking in the O2 forum?

the Netgear you mention in your OP would need an ADSL to ethernet Bridge (also known as an ADSL ethernet Modem) such as this to be able to use it on an ADSL line.

The link I provided is not an endorsement of the product, or shop, it is simply for illustrative purposes only. I have never used either, it was simply one of the first results from Google for the sort of device I was looking for.

I don't know, as I don't know why VPN won't work with your current set-up. If the root problem is getting VPN to work on O2 you're better off asking there.
