Don't try to use cable with plugs attached. You should use infrastructure cable and that is not suitable for plugs.

Get a standard square electrical backbox and a modular faceplate, then insert an RJ11 and RJ45 socket into it. For the incoming signal to te modem, try to use shielded or screened Cat5e. Ethernet data is a lot more resilient and you can use ordinary Cat5e. Then use short patch leads from the sockets to the master, the modem and devices.

You could use 2 x RJ45 sockets as they will take an RJ11/12/14 plug into the centre.

In reply to a post by DonalTrainor82:
Plan of action is to move the OR modem upstairs myself using a Cat5e cable with RJ-11 plugs, running another cable with it for data with RJ-45 plugs into the room where the server is going to be.

It would be better, if possible, to leave the OR modem where it is to minimise signal loss.

Connect to the router in your "server room" with CAT5e / RJ45.

If you have a requirement for internet access where the phone comes in (TV, SKY box etc) then you need a CAT5e down again from your switch.

BT Infinity 2 - IP profile 77 / 20 - super fast!
Previously BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload but then moved house - 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download

The B.t engineer came on Monday and installed a data extention kit to the back of where the t.v is going to sit, the NTE 5 come into the kitchen through the top of the stairs as the pole is out back. I should have just got him to install it in the room where I am going to put the server but whats done is done.

As MHC says there is a chance of interference from the t.v to the OR modem, so I dont know what to do now.
