Hardwire Ethernet ob phones

[link to this post]

Trying to get hardwire etherney connection to my Galaxy A7 phone. Phone has USB-B socket.

I have this:_

UGREEN USB C to Ethernet Adapter Gigabit Type C to RJ45 Wired Network Thunderbolt 3 LAN Adaptor Compatible with MacBook, Surface Pro, iPad Pro 2021, Switch, PS5,XPS15/13, Galaxy Tabs, Fire TV Stick

It works if I connect it to my Galaxy Tab A (2018) which has USB-C. I also have a USB-C to USB-B connector:-

BabyElf USB C Adapter(2 Pack), Type C Female to Micro USB Male Support Data Sync, Compatible with Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, Nexus 5/6 and Micro USB Devices

but connecting this to my phone or another tablet with USB-B does not work.

Could it be the adaptor or that USB-B on Galaxy phones/tablet cannot be hardwired?

Anay advice please?

Probably down to the (lack of) built-in driver support that the phone has and the tablet with USB-C has.

I was doing something similar with a Emlid Reach GNSS receiver that runs a Linux core and it has support buried somewhere in the kernel for Realtek RTL815x family Ethernet chipsets used in may of these USB-C dongles.

Thanks

That would be my conclusion as well. Samsung might have planned for a tablet to use a USB-C to Ethernet adaptor, but very few people need to connect a phone to Ethernet. smile

Thanks, Don't know why I couldn't find those.
Your link to GSM Arena shows exactly why it doesn't work as the A7 doesn't support on the go through its USB port.

Thanks

Yes, even the ones that do OTG, don’t always support all the USB-C Ethernet chipsets used in these dongles and docks.

Yeah good point, but if it doesn't even support OTG it is not going to get that far.

Thanks
