FTTC conundrum

It's all very well FTTC-readying exchanges, but how can I know or find out that my nearest boxes are ready?

My exchange (LNBAR) should be finished soon, but the local green BT boxes seem undisturbed.

Do ISPs have any inside info?

there were/are some paint markings on pavements around barnet saying 'bt fttc'.
no planning applications, as yet, for ones in the conservation areas either.
barnet is currently listed with a service date of september.

September?

LNBAR was in the first tranche of exchanges to be done (officially either phase 1/2 or 2/3) and Samknows has an enablement date of April; which coincides with the phase it was in.

Where did you get the info from about September?

I cannot keep my eyes of the cabinets ATM just in case the Openreach pixies have started working.

Took me an age to find it too.

It is a little hidden but if you go to ADSL you will find it on the page itself...

We also have a more complete version on http://www.falconnet.co.uk/site/adslchecker.php which shows other providers.

Will be updating this more soon and with more details

The more complete version says "There are currently no plans for BT's Fibre to the Cabinet products to be enabled on your exchange" which is totally untrue.

It's not untrue since the data comes from the BT checker.

More that while BT have stated the exchange to updates they mau not have determined which cabinets are being upgraded... or even maybe the given cabinet isn't....

I know the wording is slightly wrong - it should say your line not your exchange and I will tweak that

them openreach pixes are about,
there are 5 applications for cabinets in (high) barnets conservation areas,
one in hadley has just had its goundworks done. (before planning permission...) Barnet planning ref b/01244/10, no plans online yet though.

It's a crying shame that progress has to be slowed or even stopped by needing planning permission for the cabinets. That's the one thing I admire about France...if something is needed it is done without our years of public consultation and labyrinthine planning system.

planning permission is only required for those in the conservation areas, I dont think that has slowed progress, indeed as I said before, the groundwork for a box in Hadley has been installed, even before the planning application notices have gone up...

the other boxes they can just place where they like ( under 'code powers' )
