Over the last week or so I'm having random go slow points where I will get web pages time out if I'm downloading and when they do respond I get much higher than normal ping times and much slower speeds.

Also seem to be having issues with online game services like Steam.

Slow again this evening, started about 8.30 pm and still only getting 8mbit out 19mbit sync. Anyone else seeing a slowdown on Vivaciti?

BT Wholesale test is showing 16.89 mbits and full profile so must be Enta end.

Probably not related to yesterday's slow down but phone has no dial tone today and sync is down to 8 mbit.

That happened to me in the middle of last year, line was slightly slow the day before the phone went dead.

Had to wait four days for BT to fix the phone line.

Hi,
If you are seeing an issue on your broadband and you have no dial tine, this will be related although to still get 8meg with a "dis leg" is quite good normally it will be crawling on the floor.

The phone requires both wires of the pair connected all the way to the exchange. Broadband can stagger along on just one wire. Like vivaciti, I am surprised that 8Mbps is being obtained. I nearly said so much earlier but MrSaffron had already said that was the cause.

I didn't want to query him as he sees far more such situations than I do, but I'm not sure he's right this time.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 57.1/14.8Mbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

No, depending on the leg that failed you can still get dsl (not sure about fttc) but at a reduced sync as there is not as much signal getting through.

BT have quoted a fix by end of 09/01 and shouldn't need access to the property. We will see, it always seems to be just after the New Year our phone goes dead, I can remember a couple of other faults the same time, one took 6 weeks to fix on e-side of cabinet.

When my phone line went dead last year (on Xilo) my broadband was still going, reduced, but at about 8 - 9 megs the whole time the phone was dead until BT fixed it, then it went back to normal.

Unfortunately, no, I didn't bother to ring my home phone and used the free call redirection service BT offered because the line was down, to forward all calls to my mobile, until the phone line was fixed.

frown when mine went down, BT did fix it by the fourth day of it being down. Check in to it, IIRC from when mine phone line was dead, if it is down longer than four days, you can get compensation.

There's a wodge of stuff here, which at the end refers to the linked T & Cs.

I cannot remember exactly what the amounts are, but IIRC it is just the line rental amount per day, which as Robert says is peanuts.

Interesting, I paid rental a year in advance so wonder how that works. I rather like peanuts, and it also depends how long it takes to fix.
