Xilo Home and Office Packages

[link to this post]

Who provides the back end network for Xilo's metered home and office packages as I read in another thread it wasn't Enta. How do they compare to Enta?

Also the standard home and office packages on both Xilo and Vivaciti state that off-peak for home is 12-8am and office is 8pm-8am. Do those times still apply at the weekend or are weekends classed as off-peak?

Hi benjones,

I'm on Xilo Office package, and the it's a MurphX connection.

It's very good, speed is superb throughout the day and night, and support is very good too; I've been with both companies you mention within the last year, and have found the support that I get currently is the best that I've experienced for many years.

With Xilo, it's off-peak all weekend; can't comment about Vivaciti's current packages though.

I'm just about to finish with ADSL24 on MurphX and performance has been terrible. Is Xilo likely to be any better than ADSL24 when it comes to MurphX or will the level of performance be the same. There are many reports of this poor performance popping up on ADSL24's forum. Not looking good at all.

I really can't comment on whether or not they would be better than ADSL24 or not, as I've not had any experience of them since I used them on Enta before Enta got really bad. I don't know how all these companies work; do they just pop people on MurphX's network, or do they have to 'buy bandwidth' or how it's managed; I don't know if either Matt (Xilo) or James (ADSL24) would even want to comment on what their commercial arrangements are with MurphX either.

My experience with Xilo is that it's fast whenever I want it to be; I've currently got a download going at 812KB/s - I'm quite a demanding use, and have been with various companies over the last year, and found that the speeds on Xilo Office product to be very stable and reliable - even more so than my previous ISP (A&A), and at a fraction of the cost.

Sounds pretty good, thanks for the feedback.

I agree that the specific details of each deal that a reseller offers is probably private, and for good reason. If you haven't noticed any issues lately though I would think it's quite possible that they have unique agreements and setups.

How long ago did Xilo switch from Enta to MurphX by the way?

Correct and a few things are likely to change in regard to L2TP soon, so that DSL traffic will come straight in to our hosting network which offers far better routing and latency.

More information will be provided as and when we're ready to switch over to this, but it will not be rushed.

While I agree that there are users on the ADSL24 forums complaining about performance since the switch to MurphX, it seems to me that most of the postings are from the same smallish group of people.

People who are happy rarely post to forums, but I'm getting pretty much the same level of performance that I got when connected via EntaNet.
