Not had a chance to plug in yet. I work in an annex which uses powerline - so I get 30 Mbps to there. I need to take a laptop into the house and test using Ethernet...

When the weather is nice I will be running Cat 6a to the annex so I get the full gig to my work area.

It's actually hard to test a gig as most test sites struggle to keep up!

I would have thought community fibres own server on speedtest.net would be able to cope.

I'm sure it's no coincidence but as CF are very close to available in my area (fibre now being blown to poles) Virgin have started offering everyone the new DOCSIS 3.1 capable Hub 4. It's early days but the additional downstream bandwidth seems to have sorted a lot out.

On another note, I wonder how many people now consider a backup internet connection a necessity. An FTTC circuit can be had for less than £20 ex VAT per month, which is far lower than the cost difference between any of the consumer FTTP/DOCSIS packages and a leased line with proper SLA.

Do they give you service credits if they miss the SLA 😉 ?

CF came back about 12 hrs later.

CF plus Virgin seems a pretty knock-out way of having a resilient connection at a resonable price.

The Virgin circuit is £25 a month - 100 Meg product bought via a reseller.
