Virgin media vs grain connect

New to this forum so hello to everyone
I had search but can't find many posts on Grain Connect who are a new fibre supplier in my area.
Ive been with virgin broadband for a very long time. I was paying £31 for M350 up until this month when my discounts fell off. Now £60.They have offered my M500 for £38. I not going accept as there is new provider in our area with their own fibre lines, Grain Connect. Anyone with them or heard of them. They should be live by next month. The deals they got on are unbelievable, £30 for 1gb broadband. Uploads and downloads unlimited. I am going wait until they are live then cancel virgin. Test Grain for a month and see if virgin offer anything good or if Grain are good I'll stick with them. Very good reviews on trust pilot. I haven't found anyone who has compared the two yet. Virgin have become so poor nowadays. Lucky if you get through to person holding on the line 60 min minimum any day of the week. In the evening maybe a bit quicker but call will go to india. Loyality doesn't mean a thing to these companies any more.

If you have the opportunity to leave VM and go full fibre with someone else then absolutely do it.

I know vm are pants when it comes to customer service but their speeds the only reason i stayed with them. My only concern is I can't find anyone who is with Grain Connect so I can compare the two. Don't want to leave one cr@p provider for potentially a worse one.

They seem very small and their website doesn't say where they cover. They are on the ThinkBroadband maps as an option but I can't see where they have coverage because you would have to be zoomed in before the dots appears and no idea what areas to zoom in on.

If you don’t take a risk you’ll never know. If it’s cack, move back.

Don't forget that you 14 days to say nope under Consumer Contracts Regulations, if ordered using online/phone.

Though there are only 353 reviews there, that's indeed a very small number even for an Altnet FTTP provider.

However, it does have 67% positive reviews (4.4 stars). The 10% negative reviews seem to come mostly from unverified reviewers.

But as with all providers there will always be samples of negative reviews. From what I'm reading, most of them seem positive and they even offer a 7 day free trial before ordering a service.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take a chance! Since it's FTTP, I don't think it will be too big of a risk compared to FTTC or ADSL. Few number of reviews is simply an indicator that their coverage is very low, so of-course if the coverage is low naturally there will be fewer reviews.

Speed-wise, VM can't be any better when their upload speeds are not even symmetrical. It's worse than Openreach FTTP with only 52Mbps upload on the Gig1 package!

Grain Connect offer symmetrical speeds for all their packages.

Unfortunately the consumer cooling off period is 14 days from the order being placed. If they take more than 14 days to activate the service then you can be stuck.

Some providers like BT and Virgin start the 14 days upon activation but that's entirely their own choice.

Unless the law has changed recently.

Yes ive seen the reviews on trust on trust pilot. Mostly good. The chap i spoke to said the chairman used to work at BT before setting up his own company.
What i meant was when i said can't find anyone who has Grain connect no one in any forum who can comment on their service. Reviews on trust pilot always have to take with a pinch of salt. Can be internal company staff or competitors making the negatives.
They don't offer 7 day trails anymore but you do have 14 days cooling off period but they have a cancellation fee. Have to bite the bullet as the 1gb offer is too good to miss. Also the upload is matched with download speeds.
Im going to wait when i get a install date then cancel with vm, see if their retention offer to match the price.
